Wehr Hobelmann Gottlieb Brewing and Malting Co. 1881-1889

Wehr Hobelmann and Gottlieb were originally maltsters.  Many local brewers would buy their malt from Wehr Hobelmann and Gottlieb and unfortunately became indebted to them.  This forced Wehr Hobbelmann and Gottlieb to close and sell many breweries to recoup any loss.  In 1890 their location on Hanover, Conway & Perry became the Globe Brewery which was one of only a few to survive Prohibition.

By 1890 the name Globe Brewery, took the place of the three maltsters.

At times, Breweries would also attach labels to help identify the brewery and the beer to have them stand out in a crowd.  As each bottle was thoroughly washed between uses, labels almost never survived unless the bottle was discarded in a safe place.  Examples are generally found on bottles left in basements, attics and in the walls.

Wineke & Shanley -1885

Wineke & Shanley ran a Saloon at the corner of Saratoga & Bruce.  This bottle appears to have been commissioned for the saloon patrons to take a to-go beer home with them.  Wineke & Shanley do not appear in any Baltimore city periodical but the location is bought by Louis Bokemeyer in 1885 who continues to run the Saloon and has his own bottles commissioned.

By 1902 this location is currently Louis Bokemeyer's Saloon.
