The Globe Brewery 1889-1899

The Globe brewery was incorporated in 1889 after previously named the Wehr-Hobelmann-Gottlieb Brewing and Malting Company from 1881.  The brewery was located at Hanover, Conway and Perry Sts.  Globe was so popular that they opened up a bottling house in Staunton Virginia.  Kegs of beer would be shipped by train to Staunton and bottled there.  In 1899 Globe was bought out by the Maryland Brewing Company and then in 1901 the GBS Brewing Company.  Bottles from those companies are listed there.

The Globe brewery was massive and nearly took up a complete city block.  By 1890 they have their own bottling house.  Globe's Munich and Goldbrau Lagers were very popular and the bottling house was probably running around the clock to receive, clean and fill the recyclable bottles.  Even with their own bottling house, the demand required Globe to reach out to a local bottler, Joseph Goldman to help meet the demand.  Goldman's bottles are documented in a section of his name.
