Frederick Kuhne 1867-1868

Kuhne operated a small brewery out of his residence as a side income.  During the period of time found in the Baltimore City Directories when he was living at the 10 Fell address he was listed as a confectionery.  As noted with other entries confectioneries at times were associated with breweries as they would have lots of fruits that could be used to make alcohol.  Due to this relation Kuhne most likely produced mead.  Kuhne does not appear in the 68-69 directory but in 1870 he has moved to 22 Thames and is working as an agent at the emigrates home.  This leaves a very short window of production of this stoneware.

William F Kuszmaul's bottling House 1886-1891

Kuszmaul started his bottling house to bottle beer for the Standard Brewery.  The street address to the left is before Baltimore renumbered the streets so the address embossed below is the same.  Kuszmaul was growing more successful so in 1892 he and his family moved closer to the Standard Brewery were kegs could be wheeled and walked across the street for bottling.

In 1890 a simple row house at 918 McDonogh was all that was needed for Kuszmaul to get his start in bottling.

WM F. Kuszmaul & Son Bottling House 1892-1912

In I892 the family moves to 1743 N. Gay Street across from The Standard Brewery.  "Son" officially joins the company and later when bottling Standard's beer is no longer needed, they brew their own Birch Beer and bottle Americus Ginger Beer and Philly's Bergner & Engel.

Kuszmaul & Sons runs a saloon, bottles for Standard and some other breweries and then brews their own Birch Beer.  Later on the elder Kuszmaul has a hand in baking.

Henry L. Lemkuhl's Bottling House 1889-1899

As noted in the H. R. Elbring entry, Lemkuhl worked for Elbring and then in 1889 took over the bottling plant.  Lemkuhl continued to bottle for Schlitz, Charles Wolter's Berliner Weiss Bier and other beverages.  Lemkuhl continues to be a bottler only, relying on others to brew the various beverages.

By 1890 Lemkuhl fully took over Elbring's Bottling House.  By 1892 he expanded the operation to include 512 S. Eutaw St.

Henry Levies Dates unknown

Little to nothing is known regarding this Baltimore brewer as no information for a Henry Levies appears in any Baltimore City Directory or other periodicals.  All known examples are exactly alike with the blue glazed top and the use of the number 1 instead of an i in Levies.
