Crown Bottling Works 1903-1919

Crown Bottling works was in business for a long time however very few of their beer bottles have been documented as opposed to their small and picnic size soda bottles.  The bottling house was located at 703 S Durham up to 1913 when they moved to 702-706 S. Wolfe St.  From the limited number of beer bottles it appears that they only briefly flirted with the idea of bottling beer and then changed their minds.

In 1910 Crown Bottling Works occupied a rowhouse size business at 703 S. Durham.  By 1913 they move to S. Wolfe St.

The Crown Cork and Seal Company 1893-1919

Crown Cork and Seal is famous and still exists to this day thanks to William Painter and his invention.  The bottle listed here was originally thought to be a short beer bottle but after further information it more appears to be a pressure testing bottle.  The bottle has a hole in the rear and would be pressurized to determine how much pressure the bottle could hold before the Loopseal would fail.  The attached advertisement from 1903 shows the line up of their products which included the Crown Cork Seal, Loopseal and Aluminum Stopper.

By 1914 Crown Cork and Seal had a massive complex at 1601Guilford Ave.

Crystal Brewage 1883-1885

Crystal Brewage but more of a product than a brewery.  It was available from Jacob Seeger at the Baltimore Brewery on Frederick & Pratt Sts.  Crystal Brewage was produced from 1883-1885 and while available in kegs, the bottles appear to be used solely for export as most examples are found in the Louisiana-Florida area.

A lithograph view from 1869.

#615

10 inch private mold with no glasshouse identified.
