Joseph Goldman's Bottling House 1896-1919

Goldman was located at 748 N. Gay before moving to 140-147 E. Madison and then 120-122 S. Eden St.  Other than beer, Goldman bottled sodas and other beverage.  Beer bottles using his name were only used for a very short timeframe and only a few have been documented.

James Gorman's Ale Vaults and Liquors 1870-1881

Originally owned by A. V. Mitzel, this location was sold in 1868 to an unknown person and then bought by Gorman in 1870.  Gorman had his ale vaults and liquors from 1870-1881 at 31 Post Office / Rear 42 Second St but also ran a dining room and restaurant in the early 1870s.  He was a licensed bottler of Schlitz's Celebrated Milwaukee Lager in 1877 and Crescent Brewery's Aurora Beer in 1880.  Even though these may have been large contracts only 2 bottles have been found and documented.  A testament the the outstanding glass recycling or that the bottles never made it back to Gorman.

Gottleib Baurernschmidt Strauss Brewing Company 1901-1919

GBS was a combination of Brewers and Malters that bought out many breweries from The Maryland Brewing Company in 1901.  They kept some open and closed others.  For many of the breweries, bottles specific and embossed to that branch were blown.  GBS and each individual Branch bottles are documented here.

At times, Breweries would also attach labels to help identify the brewery and the beer to have them stand out in a crowd.  As each bottle was thoroughly washed between uses, labels almost never survived unless the bottle was discarded in a safe place.  Examples are generally found on bottles left in basements, attics and in the walls.

John & Mary Grasbinder's Mead & Beer Brewery 1853-1855

Both John and Mary both appear in different 1853 Baltimore City Directories.  The fact that they have different addresses is interesting as the 107 Lee address was previously used by Christian Gerber and the 89 Lee address was later used by Christian Hohnberger both in production of brewing and distribution in stoneware bottles.  Perhaps they were different establishments but John is the one with his initial on the stoneware bottle.
