Charles Root was in the confectionery business from 1870-1874 at Baltimore and Light St. As noted with other entries, confectioneries would have ample supply of fresh fruits and naturally when fruits and other supplies age they can be used to make alcohol beverages. Root's Ginger Spray was no doubt a side business from his confectionery shop enabling him to use spoils to turn some additional profit. Other than the two examples shown here, one other item of stoneware is linked to Root, that being a small stoneware cup with the same embossing as #2080.
