The Baltimore Breweries Company LTD 1891-1899

The Spring Garden Brewery of Bauernschmidt & Marr operated from 1861 until they were bought out by the Baltimore Breweries Co in 1891.  Very few bottles have been found from this brewery.

It's hard to think of Baltimore as a place of rolling fields and open area.  But there was a time where breweries would take up large areas  offering workers a home, a garden, brewery, bottling house and a wonderful neighborhood location to entertain.

Baltimore Glass Works 1799-1893

At the foot of Federal Hill, the Baltimore Glass Works of Frederick M. Amelung & Company was the new venture of John Frederick Magnus Amelung, Alexander Furnival, Jacob Anhurtz and former Etna superintendent Lewis Reppert.

Though this initial partnership was ill starred from the outset, dissolving within three years partly due to the Amelung family debts that came with it, it can be said that the legacy of the early Frederick County glass artisans was carried over to the inception of the Baltimore Glass Works, which was to exemplify the style and characteristics of the German glassmaker’s trade for decades to come.

Barrett & Barrett 1891-1894

Barrett & Barrett was a brewery in Chicago Illinois that opened a Baltimore Branch at 410 North St.  They were only in business for 3 years and very few bottles have been recovered.  All examples were from the same slugplate further explaining the short supply.

The address at 410 North St had the benefits of having a railroad and siding right next door for easy keg delivery.  The company was also found to be supplying vinegar to Baltimore residents.
