Historical Context

Great Western Star Brewery opened a bottling house somewhere in Baltimore. The date can approximated as the glasshouse used the markings found from 1897-1901. The establishment appears to be short lived and no location nor reference to the Great Western Star Brewery or Joseph Hock can be found in any Baltimore Directories or periodicals. To make matters worse, the engraver that was hired to created the slugplate for the bottle misspelled Illinois as Illinnois and no one caught the error. All bottles documented from this bottling house have the error.
